Our Solution

Establish a long-term housing program that allows survivors the stability and time to heal and recover from trauma of domestic violence. Our goal is to incorporate best practices, including person-centered support services, trauma-informed care and culturally specific care, in order to empower women and families to heal from the trauma of domestic violence.

Domestic violence can have long-lasting impacts that require time, professional services, and support to heal and recover from. Many survivors do not have the support systems or economic stability to afford these privileges, many of which are related to racial disparities or systemic discriminations.

Hope for the Brave will incorporate best practices into our programs and strategies, modeled from established and leading domestic and sexual violence agencies. We will create support systems that address the inequities that survivors of domestic violence face when trying to heal. Support can come in the form of subsidized child care, higher education opportunities and housing stability.

Provide diverse programming that directly leads to a reduction of domestic violence and a reduction of the occurrence of homeless as a result of domestic violence. Our goal is to provide resources for women to become empowered to end the cycle of violence.

Domestic violence affects thousands of individuals in Minnesota each day and millions across the country. In Minnesota, there are approximately 66 identified domestic violence programs and we are all working towards the same goal: ending domestic violence.

Hope for the Brave will provide long-term safety and a space for healing, as well as education and prevention-focused programming in order to enable individuals and communities to reduce and end domestic violence. We will work in partnership with both local and national organizations to achieve this goal.

Increase the number of long-term, affordable and available housing units. Our goal is to build and maintain an 80 unit housing complex that provides support services to survivors of domestic violence who are leaving emergency shelters or short-term housing programs.

Even with housing development plans, such as Heading Home Together, Minnesota’s 2018-2020 Action Plan which created 2,500 new affordable and supportive housing opportunities by 2020, there is still a significant need for additional affordable and supportive housing units to be developed. The intersection of domestic violence and homelessness or housing instability is recognized, but yet to be directly addressed with supportive housing options.

Hope for the Brave will utilize best practices and strategies for affordable and supportive housing and implement them with a focus on survivors of domestic violence.

Build a more sustainable social services sector in Minnesota. Our goal is to provide fair and equitable compensation for our professional staff and support staff, as well as create an inclusive work environment, where all are respected and valued.

While outcomes of our programs and residents are important, it is important that the people implementing the programs and support services are also supported and able to thrive in a professional and individual capacity.

Hope for the Brave will strive to be an example in the social services industry for practices in compensation, workload and professional well-being.
